Applying for Visa

To obtain a Visa for travel to Bangladesh, please fulfil the requirements mentioned below:

Applicants must provide their email address on the application form to get updates of the applications.

1. Please fill-in the Visa Form (fillable PDF). You need to fill-in all segments in Page-1, only 'New Visa' segment in Page-2 and the 'Check List' in Page-3. In 'Payment Details', the details of money order or cashier's check or official check have to be provided. No other mode of payment is accepted.Once filled-in, please print it and send/submit the hard copy to the Embassy with the required documents.

2. A 2’’X 2” or 45 mm x 35 mm color photograph with white background taken within the last six months (attach using glue on the top left corner box of the application form. Do not staple photo);

3. Attach existing valid passport (original passport) with a validity of at least six months;

4. Photocopy of the passport (photo page only);

5. If applicant is a non-US national, s/he must submit a photocopy of his/her valid US Visa/Green Card. US State ID or Driving License will not be considered as Proof of Residency;

6. Fees: Please pay Money Order/Cashier's Check/Official Check (not older than 30 days) to the “Embassy of Bangladesh’’. Cash or Personal check or online payment is not accepted. Every application must be submitted with a separate money order or cashier's check or official check even if the applications belong to one family or group.

Visa fee for most types of visas for ordinary US passport holder is US$160.00. For Employment/Missionary/NGO (E or E1/M/N) visa, it is US$190.00.

There is no visa fee for diplomatic/official passport holders if their application is supported by a Note Verbale.

NO REFUNDS: Fees, once received by the Embassy, cannot be refunded, even if the application is withdrawn or service cannot be rendered.


8. 'T' Visa: The category of 'T' visa is applicable to those applicants who intend to travel to Bangladesh for tourism, meeting relatives, attending private seminar/workshop/meeting, etc. Hotel reservation/Letter of Invitation with appropriate contact details of the host is required. If the host belongs to any official/business entity, the letter of invitation has to be written on official or business pad; otherwise a copy of the NID of the host has to be attached.

9. 'B' Visa:The category of 'B' visa is applicable to those applicants who intend to travel to Bangladesh for assessing potential investment or for the purpose of trade/commerce. A letter from a recognized trade association of the concerned country or recommendation from a local sponsor based in Bangladesh is required. To prove the authenticity of the local sponsor, please also include Trade License/Registration Paper or any Government issued Certificate in favour of the host organization.

10. Work Visa: Letter of employment from the employer in Bangladesh and letter of concurrence from concerned Ministry or Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) or Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) or Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA). To work (with pay/voluntary) in a non-governmental organization (NGO), the applicant should furnish a copy of a letter of appointment from the NGO with attestation by the Bangladesh NGO Affairs Bureau in Dhaka.

11. Student Visa: Letter from the concerned educational institution duly attested by the Bangladesh Ministry of Education in Dhaka and Certificate of financial guarantee.

12. 'PI' Visa: The category of 'PI' visa is applicable to those applicants who already have private investment or established trade/commercial organisation in Bangladesh. Letter of recommendation from Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) or Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) or Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) is required.

13. Missionary Visa: Letter of appointment from the Church and “No Objection” from the Bangladesh Ministry of Religious Affairs in Dhaka.

14. Diplomatic and Official Visa: Note Verbale/letter from the concerned government office/Mission. Any direct communication from Dhaka will not be accepted, which must come via Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka.

15. Journalist Visa: Letter of request from the employer/news agency clearly stating the purpose of the visit. Persons/Network/Organization requesting for shooting/filming in Bangladesh are required to fill in Form , in addition to the visa application form.

16. On-Arrival Visa: Those who are holding Passports of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Russian Federation, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Turkey, Brunei, and EU (European Union) countries in Europe traveling to Bangladesh on short notice for purposes of official work (type A, A1, A2 & D)/diplomatic assignment/business/investment/tourism, could get visa on arrival. The immigration authorities at the international airports and land ports in Bangladesh are absolutely authorized to issue an on-arrival visa if they satisfied with the required documents of the applicants.  This visa will be issued for maximum 30-days with a single entry.

Please notethat after scrutiny of documents, the Embassy may request for an interview and/or submission of additional documents. Issuance of visa may be delayed if reference has to be made to Bangladesh for clearance.

The Embassy may accept or reject any application for visa.

The usual processing time for a visa is 10 working days. The processing time may vary on a case by case basis. For example, the issuance may be delayed in cases which require clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka.

Service by Mail: Applicants may send their application by mail. If so, the applicant must provide a self-addressed return envelope (prepaid/with appropriate postage stamps) and tracking number of Priority/Express Mail of USPS only. Applicants belonging to same mailing address can send their applications together in one envelope and enclose one return envelope. Return envelope of FedEx is not accepted as it charges the Embassy, rather than the applicant for overweight of the return mail (or for any other reasons).

Applying for Visa

To obtain a Visa for Bangladesh, the applicant must submit the following and fulfill all requirements to avoid any delay in processing:

1. A printed copy of duly completed online Visa Application (Online Application Form);

2. A 2’’X 2” color photograph with white background taken within the last six months (attach with glue on the top left corner of the form);

3. Attach existing valid passport (original passport) with a validity of at least six months;

4. Photocopy of the passport (photo and information page only);

5. Photocopy of Proof of Valid Residency in the USA (appropriate valid Visa/Green Card etc.) for the foreign passport holders (who are not holding US passport).  US State ID or Driving License will not be considered as Proof of Valid Residency;

6. Attach a health certificate from the certified physician ensuring not affected by COVID-19;

7. Fees: (Cash or Personal check-not accepted), Please pay to the “Embassy of Bangladesh’’ in the format of Money Order/ Cashier Check only;

Maximum types of visa processing fees for ordinary US passport holder is US$ 160.00 except fees for processing of visa for Employment, NGO, Missionary is $190.00.

Please also include Trade License/Registration Paper or any Government issued Certificate in favour of host organization. 12. Investor Visa: Letter of recommendation from the Bangladesh Ministry of Industries or the Board of Investment (BOI) or Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) or Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), Dhaka.

Service by Mail: Applicants may send their application by mail. If so, applicant must include a self-addressed return envelope with appropriate postage stamps and tracking number for Priority/Express Mail of the United States Postal Services (USPS) only. Please put it to the attention of the “Passport & Visa Wing”. We will not accept a return envelope unless it is a Priority/Express Mail of the United States Postal Services (USPS).  Applications received by mail may need additional working days for its processing.

Any incomplete application received by mail will be returned to the applicant without query.

In person/walk-in applicants are received at the front desk between 10:00 am to 01:00 pm Monday to Friday, except holidays. Delivery time of documents is from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm.

Wearing a mask is mandatory for all kinds of service seekers during walk-in or in-person service at the Embassy.

Please note that until further notice during COVID-19 pandemic:

a)      All on arrival visas are temporarily withheld for the Foreign Nationals entering Bangladesh.

b)      All applicants must need to submit a health certificate (in English or with English translation) from a certified physician ensuring not affected by COVID-19 (to be obtained within 72 hours of submitting the application) with the visa application.

c)       All travelers, who already have valid Visas for Bangladesh, must need to present a health certificate (in English or with English translation)  from a certified doctor, to be obtained within 72 hours of travel, ensuring not affected by COVID-19 before the Immigration Officer upon arrival in Bangladesh.

d)      Any traveler who lived in or visited any coronavirus affected countries are advised to keep in mind the condition of presenting health certificate and are subject to 14 days of quarantine upon arrival in Bangladesh. Health Officials at the entry points would decide whether they would be self-quarantined or in Government run facilities. Those under self-quarantine would be monitored by law enforcement agencies for strict compliance.

e)      Traveler arriving in Bangladesh may face the health screening and may subject to 14 days of quarantine. Health officials at the entry points would decide whether they would be self-quarantined or in government run facilities.

f)       Diplomatic / Official passport and Laissez Passer holders, posted in Diplomatic Missions in Bangladesh and members of their families (even holding ordinary passports) with valid visas will be exempted from the restrictions mentioned in paragraph (b), (c) and (d) above.
